I had been walking for hours along the river.

私は川沿いを何時間も歩き続けた。

I was so tired that my legs were quite stiff.

私は疲れ果て、足は棒のようになった。

Its main purpose is to find houses and a large flat area.

その主な目的は、馬と広大な平野の発見である。

( The action of leveling the land requiring extremely large amounts of time.)

ともかく、

At last, I found some of houses on and off, for days and days.

ずっと何日も掛けて、ようやく私は何頭かの馬を見つけた。

①　海沿いの第一拠点。ここから物語は始まった。

②　高山地帯の第二拠点 _ 鉱石資源が豊富。

③　平野部の多い第三拠点、ここでようやく馬を発見。

　湿地帯、平野、砂漠、サバンナと、各地の産品を集積するに便利な地。

　平野が続くので、整地作業が実に楽で手早く済む。
